Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is physiprac?
physiprac is an iPhone and iPad app for learning high school mechanics, such as speed and acceleration, forces and balance, the equation of motion, friction, and projectile motion, through diagrams and simulation puzzles. It is a sister app to eleprac, which teaches electronics. The early chapters are suitable for middle school students.
Q. What kinds of puzzles are there?
  • Tune and hit: set values such as angle and initial speed, launch or run, and see whether you reach the target (for example, the monkey and hunter, or stopping in a hole with friction)
  • Diagram drills: look at a diagram and choose or enter a value. Solve many in a short time
  • Maker estimates: estimate real-world values, such as the thrust a drone needs to hover or a car's braking distance
Q. What topics are covered?
Chapters cover speed and acceleration, forces and balance, the equation of motion, friction, projectile motion, work and energy, momentum and collisions, circular motion and gravitation, torque, and simple harmonic motion. We plan to add more puzzles in future updates.
Q. I'm stuck. What should I do?
Tap Show a hint. Hints start with how to think about the problem and become more specific step by step. After you check your answer, an explanation shows the diagram and formulas.
Q. What assumptions does the app use?
Gravitational acceleration is g = 9.8 m/s². Drills that use g = 10 m/s² for mental math say so in the puzzle. Air resistance is ignored, as is typical in high school physics. Units are SI (m, kg, s, N, J). An answer counts as correct if it falls within the range set for each puzzle.
Q. Can I use it for real design work?
Maker estimate puzzles are practice for the way of thinking and rough values. They use simplified models that leave out air resistance and other effects, so please don't rely on them directly for designing real machines or vehicles or for safety decisions.
Q. Can children use it?
Yes. There is no account to create, and the app never asks for a name or other personal information.
Q. Is it free?
The first chapters (Speed and Acceleration, Forces and Balance) are free. We plan to make the other chapters available through an all-access paid plan (subscription) in the future. Details such as the price will be shown in the app when it becomes available. There are no ads.
Q. Can I get notified about news?
If you turn on news notifications in Settings (off by default), the app may notify you about new announcements. Notifications are used only for major announcements such as updates.
Q. Where is my progress stored?
Solved puzzles and hint steps are stored only on your device and are never sent elsewhere. Deleting the app also deletes your progress (it is included in your iPhone backup).
